Private Piano Class: The Best of Both Private and Group Piano Lessons!

What is PPC (Private Piano Class)?  How is it different from Traditional Private Lessons?

Have you ever peeked into the studio at HAMA, and seen several students using their own digital piano stations with headphones, and teachers moving between students, guiding their practice and learning? Then, you might have caught a glimpse of the magic of PPC!

Most of our PPC students are 9 years or more. They may have recently completed Harmony’s Keyboard Year 4, or they may be just beginning their piano journey. Private Piano Class (PPC) is similar to Private Lessons in that students work at their own pace and on content specifically designed for them. But it is also similar to group music classes in that students engage with other students to enhance learning and facilitate inclusivity, and learn it's okay to make mistakes! PPC is the best of both worlds!

In PPC, students are in a group class with 4-6 students and 2 teachers. Students learn their own material at the piano and discover how to practice efficiently and effectively. The continual student-teacher engagement helps them learn to master their pieces quickly so they stay motivated. During “Cadence” time at the end of class, students explore dynamic group activities together. The students’ confidence grows and their learning pace accelerates!

How does it work?

To find true self-motivation, students need to reach mastery QUICKLY.

This Secret Sauce includes learning…

  • To see music in simple patterns;

  • Our best Practice Secrets, learning to practice efficiently, effectively and independently;

  • Music Theory in fun and new ways, and how it applies to their pieces;;

  • Self-empowerment, which grows their confidence!

Students who play well, LOVE to play, and that’s what they learn in PPC!

What do parents say about PPC?

"My child is learning so much, but all she knows is that she is having a blast!"   -T.J., studio parent

"We love Miss Nan and all the teachers! They are intentional, kind, knowledgeable, and positive!" - E.B., studio parent

What do our students say?

“Wow, we’re done?  It feels like it’s been only 10 minutes!”

“Mom and I have fewer arguments about practice.”

“I love learning to play songs I want to play.”

PPC is a central part of our Student Journey at Harmony Arts! Learning and continuing to play the piano takes dedication - and PPC helps students enjoy the journey!
